Science in Our World

             The Meadowbrook Science Fair

On Wednesday evening, March 12th we held our annual all school science fair.
The fair was opened to all students grades K-5 who wanted to participate.  The number of presentations was incredible!  There was a broad range of experiments selected to be investigated.  It was very impressive presentation and excitement of science knowledge and parental support!  Congratulations future scientists, your projects and presentations were AWESOME!" Kudos to all who participated and to all the parents that promoted and supported their children.  Here are a few "shots" from our evening of science:

Our first unit of study in science for the 2013-2014 school year was understanding what the process of science is and how scientist investigate the world around them.  Our second graders learned why scientist conduct experiments, how they use different tools to measure and record data.  By the end of our first week, we were able to ask questions about the steps of the scientific process,  investigate, experiment and make conclusions.  With the help of Mr. G, our fabulous Science teacher we were able to establish a strong science foundation  and began our next scientific unit of study, WEATHER!  We have begun to keep a daily weather chart,  part of our morning meeting schedule.  Each student has the opportunity of becoming the  class meteorologist for a day.  Not only did these student meteorologist share and record the data( from the National Weather Bureau) but they also  help facilitate the classroom discussion about the change in weather patterns found in our area and conditions in other parts of the United States.
We studied the four season using Arnold's Apple Orchard, our mentor text along with Debbie Allen's book Weather!  We are using our new set of classroom MacAir laptops to help us gather research on weather and the ever-changing weather patterns by participating in a Weather Webquest for Second graders.
We are also working on gathering data about the weather around the world.  In order to do this
we would love your help.  Please take a minute to double click on the link below and answer several weather related questions.  Once completed just hit the "submit button" at the bottom and that is it, we will do the rest.  If you could share the link with other family members, we could increase our data and research with a strong foundation of information for our reports.  Thanks in advance for all your help.
